Comcast gets a little frisky for SF Gay Pride

I’ve been seeing these transit billboards in some SF Muni stations. This photo was taken on the inbound platform of the Church Street Station. It’s great that Comcast is recognizing the gay market, but I’d feel much better about them as a company if I knew they were giving something back to the community. Maybe they are?

Church Street Café. Sketchiest place outside the Loin?

Maybe not, but it’s arguably the sketchiest place in ChuMa. Woke up early this morning (it’s a curse and a blessing) in serious need of some caffeine. For the last few Saturdays I’ve been hitting Four Barrel Coffee on Valencia, but for some reason I felt like a cup of swill this morning. Probably a bad choice. Simply put, that place is gross. I think this dude and I were the only sane folks in the joint. Next time I’m going next door to Thorough Bread.

Pisco Latin Lounge

Last Friday my friend Rich suggested that we grab a drink at Pisco Latin Lounge on Market Street after work. My best buddy/co-worker Jen and I arrived at about 6:00. The seating area by the front window was already taken, so we grabbed seats at the bar.

The place is fairly small with a large bar, four or five small tables for two and an area in the back that’s perfect for a larger group. By 6:45 the bar was hopping with a very mixed crowd… Latin, white, Asian, gay, straight. It had a really great, relaxing vibe that I found refreshing and perfect for an after work cocktail. Since I’m pretty unfamiliar with Peruvian-inspired cocktails, I was eager to have a taste. The bartender was very helpful (and hot!) and suggested I might like an “Original Recipe Pisco Punch,” which is made with Inca Gold Acholado Pisco, pineapple gomme (anybody?), and served on the rocks. Kinda sour, kinda sweet, and pretty damn strong… I highly recommend it. The pineapple garnish was spiked with something really tasty (Pisco, perhaps?). For my second drink chose a Pisco Sour, which had I tried once before at Fresca in Noe Valley. If you can get past the fact that you’re drinking egg whites, you really have to try this drink! It’s made with Barsol Quebranta Pisco, lime juice, egg whites, and bitters. Delicious.

I highly recommend this place. It’s a great addition to the neighborhood. I’m just sorry that it took me so long to stop by.
